YOUTH MINISTRY PLAN

What should youth ministry be?

Define Ministry:

Begin with the understanding that youth ministry is not separate and apart from the ministry. To leave it in a vacuum or silo is to miss the point. The effectiveness of the youth ministry is seriously limited without the family.

Primary Goal is to serve and support the parents in the raising and education of their children:

  1. Set expectations, milestones and benchmarks (vision)

  2. Teach patterns of behavior, habits and processes (Leadership)

  3. Provide accountability (Outcomes)

  4. Motivation and reaffirmation and Evaluation

Provide a Vision - Answer the  unasked questions

  1. Why do they need to attend regularly?

  2. Why should I serve?

  3. Do I matter?

  4. What should we be learning this season

  5. How do I apply this to my life

  6. When it is working what should I see happening?

Develop Leaders

  1. Teaching Families to lead themselves in their own homes

  2. Train leaders within the ministry

  3. Develop leaders for the church as a whole

What should the outcome be if we are doing this right?

  1. Are you developing life long, fully devoted followers of Christ.

    1. Believers who profess, confess, seek and serve with urgency

    2. Put their faith into action through study, service, outreach, worship and pray

    3. Does their life lead to replication?

What are the motivation and reaffirmation points in our church?

  1. Child Dedication

  2. Baptism

  3. ……………….. Oops?

What would you look for to evaluate?

  1. Attendance - Why, how often, Engagement level

  2. Visitors - what brought you

  3. Service of the students

  4. Decisions

  5. Create trackables / milestones / testing?

  6. Where are they in 5 years after leaving?

Advanced Bible study Case study.

  1. Personal Invitation to the student and to the parents. Get both to buy into the study before hand and present it as exclusive and advanced.

  1. Have contact info for parents and establish the relationship with the parent from the beginning. Set “conditions” Upfront. (call to account if not interacting)

  2. Require kids to bring bibles (make fun of no bible)

  3. Text parents at the end of every lesson with a question and note about the study that should generate conversation. Use some crazy verbiage that doesn’t make a lot of sense without a conversation. (satan filled bread)

  4. Ask the kids weekly if they are talking about it. (check what you expect regularly)

  5. Ask challenging questions about controversial topics. Disagreements between the denominations. (why not take communion at every meeting)

  6. At the end of the study ask the kids what they think. Give them the opportunity to invite others at the start of the next study. (do they want to play or participate)

  7. Don’t solve the puzzle - make them own the conclusions

Judge success?

  1. Do they want to keep going?

  2. Do they want to invite others?

  3. What kind of student do they invite?

  4. Is our language evolving?

  5. Do the kids come with individual questions outside of the lessons?

  6. Do the parents ask questions about what we study?

  7. Do parents come looking for their kids to get in?

  8. …….? Kids witnessing to other kids?
