Big Moments

The Lost art of writing and sending letters.

To the Beloved Church of Mount Gilead,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I write to you with a heart overflowing in gratitude for the way you have lived up to your famous name. In Scripture, Mount Gilead is remembered as the place from which the balm of Gilead came—a rare and precious ointment renowned for its power to heal (Jeremiah 8:22). This balm became more than a medicinal remedy; it became a symbol of God’s power to restore the broken, bind up the wounded, and bring wholeness to the hurting.

In much the same way, your church has become a living testimony to that same ministry of healing. You have been a refuge for the weary, a safe harbor for those battered by the storms of life, and a place where the spiritually wounded can find comfort and restoration. Like the balm of old, your love, prayer, and compassion have brought relief to many who had nearly given up hope.

When Jeremiah cried out, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?”—your church has answered with a resounding “Yes.” The Great Physician walks among you, and His hands of mercy are made visible through your acts of kindness, your commitment to truth, and your willingness to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).

From the first welcome at the door to the steady presence in times of crisis, you have embodied the ministry of Christ who came to “bind up the brokenhearted… and comfort all who mourn” (Isaiah 61:1-2). You have been, in every sense, a place of shalom—not just the absence of pain, but the presence of wholeness and peace.

Thank you for being faithful to your calling. Thank you for allowing the fragrance of Christ’s healing to fill your fellowship. And thank you for being the Mount Gilead this hurting world so desperately needs.

May the Lord continue to bless you, strengthen your hands, and enlarge your reach, so that His healing may flow even further through your ministry.
